Worse Than Dying – by Brett Van Valkenburg

Zombies is a subgenre of horror that I don’t explore very often since I burned myself out by watching The Walking Dead. But I saw good reviews for Worse Than Dying by Brett Van Valkenburg, so I thought I’d give it a shot.

What a great book! This was unlike any zombie storyline I’ve seen. There was a depth to the characters and more going on than the typical survival and “are humans actually worse than the zombies” storyline. Well, those are there too – BUT there is much more. Oh and some of the typical zombie lore is called into question in the book. It’s done in a way that made me put on my thinking face and say huh – he could be onto something different here! I like it!

If you’re a fan of zombie horror, or even if you aren’t, I highly recommend this short book. It can be read in one day if you don’t have many interruptions. It took me a couple more days, ahem. 🙂 I am happy to give Worse Than Dying five stars and hope to get a chance to read more from this author in the future!
